Dear Readers,
This is the time of year when events are a little on the sparse side—presumably because folks are on vacation or heading to the beach! But we found a soupçon that are of interest. The biggest event is, of course, Comic-Con, which blasts off next Thursday. But between now and then, you might enjoy the 5th Annual Filipino American Friendship Festival on Saturday and the House of Colombia Lawn Program on Sunday. Coinciding with Comic-Con next weekend will be Indigi-Con, with a greater focus on Indigenous creators. Music and dance offerings in the coming days include El Grupo Marca Registrada at Front Wave, Flamenco Íntimo (featuring Lakshmi Basile!) at the Charade Speakeasy, West African saxophonist Gyedu Blay Ambolley at Music Box, and the Sabrosas Latin Orchestra at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. On Saturday, the Chinese Historical Museum will present a talk by Russell Low entitled A Willow Tree Becomes a Forest. German Currents Kino will present screenings of the film Atlas at the Digital Gym, tonight and again on Sunday. At the Refinery Church in Chula Vista, there will be a Love Thy Lucha event. Anastasia the Musical continues at Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista.
